What is one thing you urgently need to do after getting a job in Finland?

Join an unemployment fund, for example, YTK.

If you are a member of the YTK and you lose your job, they will pay you around 70% of your salary for a year (Correction: this % differs based on your salary if you make 4000 a month, your earnings-related daily allowance is 97,38 €. Per month it is about 2 090 €).

🔍 Why you should consider joining an unemployment fund?
We're living in a world full of uncertainty. Today you have a job but tomorrow the company can go bankrupt or declare layoffs. Joining an unemployment fund will give you peace of mind and time looking for a new job.

💡 Good to know:
The unemployment fund will only pay you if you have been a member for at least 6 months before becoming unemployed. 6 months rule will be changed to 12 starting from 2.9.2024.

💰 How much does the membership cost?
At the moment, it's 105 EUR a year. If you would like to get legal support as well, you will need to pay an extra 24 EUR a year.
